Grand Detour Factory
The first plow built by John Deere was built in his blacksmith shop in Grand Detour, Illinois. John Deere continued to work out of his Grand Detour shop until 1848, when he moved his business to Moline Illinois due to the availability and advantages of water, power, and transportation.
The John Deere Grand Detour shop is still standing and open for tours. During tours there are blacksmithing demonstrations performed.
